Salé Authorities Target Controversial Shisha Cafes Near Schools

The Ministry of the Interior wants to tackle the shisha or "hookah" cafes that have taken root in Salé and are the subject of many complaints from residents.
Located in the Marina area, on Lalla Meryem and Lalla Amina boulevards in the Al Mazraa district of Tabriquet, these shisha cafes, described as "nests of debauchery", are in the sights of the authorities. According to Hespress, the fact that they are close to certain schools makes their existence a danger for the students, according to the many complaints received by the authorities.
"Addiction, disturbing odors, lack of hygiene, shared shisha, impressive smoke inhaled by customers or passive smokers" are the complaints filed against these places which are accused of being places of transmission of respiratory and other diseases.
It is therefore to put an end to this situation that the Ministry of the Interior has launched several campaigns in the city of Salé, in order to "protect the health of citizens and maintain public order and security". In addition, these cafes will be inspected to see if they comply with the law.
In response to a written question from Abdellah Bouanou of the parliamentary group of the Party of Justice and Development (PJD), Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit had stressed that the law prohibits the use or sale of raw and manufactured tobacco, including "moassel", without a license. Thus, faced with the obstinacy of the owners of shisha cafes, the local authorities carry out regular raids for surprise inspections.
