Salamanca Emerges as Key Stopover for Moroccan Diaspora Heading Home for Summer

In recent years, many Moroccan tourists have flocked to Salamanca (Castile and León) during the summer season. These are mainly Moroccans living in Europe who make a stop in the city located in northwestern Spain before returning to Morocco to spend their summer vacation.
The number of Moroccan tourists who have visited Salamanca in recent summers has increased considerably. Moroccans residing in Europe, during their trip to Morocco as part of the Marhaba Operation, "generally stop in Salamanca for one night," explains Silverio Vicente of the Salamanca Hotel Association to HuffPost.
The hoteliers in the city hope that the same trend will be observed this summer. In terms of bookings, domestic tourists, especially those from Madrid, Valencia, Catalonia and Galicia, continue to flock to Salamanca. Bookings from foreign tourists are also on the rise during the summer, led by Americans, Portuguese, French, Germans and British.
