Salah Abdeslam’s Wife in Custody, DGSI Speaks Out on USB Key Affair
As France prepares to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the November 13 attacks, the Director General of Internal Security (DGSI), Céline Berthon, provided an update on the situation of the sole survivor of the commando units. She stated on Monday, November 10 on RTL that Salah Abdeslam "was not implicated in a planned attack."
This statement comes as Salah Abdeslam is the subject of a new investigation. He was briefly taken into custody last Tuesday as part of an investigation opened in January 2025 for the illegal possession of a USB key in prison. While his custody has been lifted, three other people, including his partner, are still being questioned in this case.
A "radicalized" individual but no active threat
When questioned about the profile of Abdeslam’s partner, the DGSI chief confirmed that she was "the subject of investigations," adding that "this type of profile is one of our targets."
However, Céline Berthon sought to distinguish the potential threat of the individual from their current activities. She recalled that Abdeslam was a "very symbolic figure," but assured that he "is not implicated in a planned attack." She did, however, specify that he remains "an individual who remains radicalized and convinced of the deadly ideology."
Salah Abdeslam is currently incarcerated in the Vendin-le-Vieil prison (Pas-de-Calais), where he is serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole for his participation in the attacks that killed 130 people in Paris and Saint-Denis. As part of the commemorations, Céline Berthon indicated that there was "no concrete threat identified for the upcoming November 13."
