Ryanair Warns of Flight Cuts in France Due to Tax Hike, Morocco Routes at Risk

As a result of the increase in the air ticket tax in France, Ryanair has threatened to cancel several flights in the country, including some to Morocco. This is the case, for example, of Perpignan.
Ryanair justifies its strategy by the new taxation. In a letter, it considers that "the increase in taxes in France [...] will bring French passenger taxes to unsustainable levels, which will inevitably lead to capacity reductions". The Irish company indicates that it will have to "review its French capacity before the summer and winter of 2025", particularly targeting regional airports.
In Perpignan, six of the eleven current destinations operated by Ryanair are potentially threatened. Among them are Agadir and Marrakech (Morocco), Brussels-Charleroi (Belgium) and three British cities (Leeds-Bradford, London-Stansted, Birmingham). A withdrawal would significantly reduce the international offer. Perpignan airport has not received official confirmation and tickets remain on sale, even as of Friday, April 4!
Faced with this situation, the Occitanie Region affirms that a departure of Ryanair "is not at all on the agenda". Christophe Manas, president of the SPLAR managing the airport, recalls the dependence on companies and warned the State: "It is necessary [...] to weigh well the consequences of this tax: all that it could recover, but also lose". The proximity of Girona airport (Spain) offers an alternative to Ryanair, while the Paris-Perpignan link via Transavia remains the main source of traffic for the airport.
