Ryanair to Phase Out Paper Boarding Passes, Impacting Moroccan Travelers

The Irish low-cost airline Ryanair intends to impose new restrictions on boarding passes. Moroccan travelers could be affected as early as next year.
In Morocco, Turkey and Tirana and Albania, digital boarding passes are not accepted at airports. "If you are departing from a Moroccan airport, a digital boarding pass will not be accepted. You must have a paper copy of your boarding pass with you and you will have to present it at the airport check-in counter," Ryanair warns in a message posted on its website.
Meanwhile, the Irish low-cost airline plans to phase out paper boarding passes next year. Confirmed by Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary. He confirmed that his company will gradually phase out paper boarding passes by May. Up to 60% of them currently use digital versions on mobile phones.
"Our goal is to eliminate airport check-in counters, just as we have done with baggage counters. Everything will be managed through the app, which will make the process fully digital and completely eliminate paper," O’Leary said. The closure of the offices will automatically lead to the elimination of the £55 registration fees. "This also means that once everyone has used the app, no one will ever pay for a boarding pass at an airport again: the airport check-in fees will be gone," the Ryanair boss assured, promising that "it will be an easier and smoother journey for everyone."
In addition to these new rules, Ryanair has also increased its baggage fees this week. Previously, any passenger booking priority upgrades at the airport, which included a 10kg suitcase and a hand luggage, paid £38. New rules could result in fees of up to £60 for passengers if they add this amount after booking flights or at the airport, reports The Sun. According to a company spokesperson, the fees depend on the itinerary and travel dates selected.
