Ryanair to Invest $200 Million in New Agadir Base, Boosting Morocco Tourism

The Moroccan National Tourist Office (ONMT) is strengthening its partnership with Ryanair. In this sense, the two parties have signed a strategic agreement through which the airline intends to invest $200 million to enhance the attractiveness of the Agadir-Taghazout destination.

In a press release, the ONMT states that a strategic agreement has been signed between the general director of the office and the CEO of Ryanair during an event organized in Taghazout. The airline will open a new base in Agadir next November, which will benefit from two aircraft based at Agadir Al Massira airport. "Ryanair is a long-standing partner of the Moroccan destination and plays a key role in our system aimed at multiplying point-to-point air connections between the kingdom and the world," said Adel El Fakir, general director of the ONMT.

The airline will connect Agadir to seven European countries (Ireland, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Germany, Poland). In total, 16 new routes will be launched for a total of 25 routes served. A total of 25 flights per week will be operated. "We are proud to announce the upcoming opening of our third Moroccan base. This is a historic partnership for us since our first flight to Agadir in 2008 and we are happy to contribute to the development of this region, as a leading winter destination," said Eddie Wilson, CEO of Ryanair.

The airline has launched a special offer with attractive fares as part of the celebration of the opening of its new base. It is offering 229,000 seats for the winter 2021-2022 season, to support the recovery of the Agadir-Taghazout destination at the peak of the season. Ryanair intends to increase this capacity - higher than before Covid-19 (108,000 seats arriving in winter 2019-2020) - to 570,000 seats arriving in 2024. It intends to provide easy access to winter tourist destinations (Tenerife, Malaga, Alicante) and several city breaks (Rome, Dublin, Paris, Porto, Barcelona) from Agadir-Taghazout.
