Ryanair Doubles Gate Arrival Time, Adds $100 Late Fee for Passengers

Ryanair will further tighten its boarding policy starting May 1, 2025, allegedly to ensure planes depart on time.
Thus, passengers must arrive at the boarding gate at least 40 minutes before takeoff. Latecomers will be denied boarding and will have to pay a 100 euro "missed departure fee" to be able to take a later flight.
This new rule replaces the previous limit, set at 20 minutes before departure. Ryanair justifies this measure by the need to encourage travelers to arrive earlier and by the goal of improving the overall punctuality of its flights.
This penalty is in addition to other fees applied by the company. Check-in at the airport counter, for example, is charged at 55 euros, while it is free online. Ryanair also plans to eliminate paper boarding passes from next November in most airports. This will not yet be the case in Morocco, but it will come.
The company’s baggage policy is also a source of potential additional fees. Recently, a passenger had to pay an extra 20 euros because her water bottle, attached to her bag due to lack of space inside, was considered a second piece of luggage. It remains recommended for travelers to check Ryanair’s specific conditions before departure.
