Russia’s Wheat Exports to Morocco Hit Record Levels, Boosting Agricultural Ties

Russian grain exports to Morocco have already reached record levels this year. In addition, the two countries have agreed to strengthen their bilateral cooperation.
Russian cereals are always popular in Morocco. According to the Russian agricultural monitoring agency Rosselkhoznadzor, more than 200,000 tons of Russian cereals, mainly wheat, have already been exported this year to the kingdom, reports the magazine Finances News hebdo, specifying that the majority of this cargo has transited through the port of Vysotsk, located in the northwest of Russia, which has shipped 94,000 tons of grain to Morocco since the beginning of the year.
Recently, a Moroccan delegation visited Russia, where it "was able to observe the export process, including quality control and cargo safety." The strengthening of bilateral cooperation between Morocco and Russia, particularly in the field of exports, as well as the exchange of experiences on the information systems of Russian regulators, were also discussed. The discussions also covered prospects for signing a memorandum on the management of pesticides and agrochemicals.
In 2023, Russia has exported cereals to more than 120 countries. "The Russian system of quality control and safety of cereals has received a positive assessment on the international market," said Antoine Karmawin, vice-president of Rosselkhoznadzor. As for the forecast production of the main cereals (soft wheat, durum wheat and barley), for the 2023/2024 agricultural season, it is estimated at nearly 31.2 million quintals (Mqx), compared to 55.1 Mqx in 2022/2023, a decrease of around 43% compared to the previous season.
