Russia Seeks to Expand Air Travel, Eyes New Routes to Morocco Amid Sanctions

Morocco is one of 11 countries with which Russia plans to open new air links. A few months ago, Russian airlines had suspended their international services following Western sanctions against the country after the invasion of Ukraine.
In a letter addressed to the heads of Russian airlines, the Russian Federal Air Transport Agency has expressed its intention to open new routes in 11 countries, including Morocco, reports the local news agency TASS. "To the heads of the airline: I ask you to submit proposals for the development of air transportation with the following countries to the Department of Transport Regulation and International Cooperation of the Federal Air Transport Agency before 5:00 pm on March 22: opening of direct flights from Russia to Myanmar, Malaysia, South Africa, Tunisia, Ethiopia, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Indonesia, Morocco, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia," the document states.
The Western sanctions imposed in February 2022 had forced Russian airlines S7 Airlines and Aeroflot to suspend flights operating between Russia and Morocco and many other countries.
