Drug Traffickers Surrender to Spanish Police After Months on the Run in Morocco

Two members of the crew of the narco-boat responsible for the death of two Civil Guards in Barbate last February have been arrested on Friday evening. They surrendered to the Guardia Civil after several months on the run in Morocco.
The arrest of these two individuals adds to that of Karim El Baqqali, the pilot of the boat, arrested in September last year in Cadiz. The latter, known as "Karim Gabarde", is the nephew of a Moroccan hashish baron operating in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The facts date back to February 9, when two Civil Guards were sheltering from a storm in the port of Barbate. Their boat was violently rammed by the narco-boat, causing the death of the two agents aged 39 and 41.
The three suspects, all of Moroccan nationality, had fled to Morocco after the tragedy. Karim El Baqqali was hiding in the Tangier region, where he was apparently leading a normal life.
The investigation, conducted by the Central Operational Unit (UCO) of the Guardia Civil, made it possible to locate the fugitives and exert pressure on their entourage. This police pressure, combined with the issuance of an international arrest warrant, prompted the two individuals to surrender to the authorities.
The case had taken a turn in May, when investigators discovered a video exonerating a group of suspects initially arrested. This video, recorded from another narco-boat, clearly showed the fatal attack and allowed Karim El Baqqali and his accomplices to be identified.
