Royal Air Maroc Suspends Flights to Gabon Following Military Coup

The airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has been forced to cancel all flights to and from Libreville (Gabon), following the coup d’état that overthrew President Ali Bongo.
Faced with this situation, RAM has unveiled two measures to assist its passengers. First, a possibility of free modification of the flight date, valid within 15 days after the reopening of the Gabonese airspace. The company also offers travelers the option to redirect their flight to another African stopover, while specifying that any tax differences due to this change will be at the traveler’s expense.
The Moroccan airline also indicates that passengers who have shared their contact information during booking will be notified by email and SMS of the cancellations. RAM encourages affected travelers to check the status of their flight online and update their contact information. Rather than going to the airports, passengers are advised to contact RAM’s customer service.
On Wednesday, a group of about a dozen Gabonese soldiers announced in a statement read on state television the cancellation of the elections and the dissolution of "all the institutions of the Republic". These soldiers, including members of the Republican Guard, said they were speaking on behalf of a "Transition and Institutional Restoration Committee". The now former President Ali Bongo has been retired.
