Royal Air Maroc Struggles Despite Surge in Ticket Sales After Border Reopening

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) shows little optimism about a very rapid return to normal. The prospects at the national airline are not very positive.

After the reopening of the Moroccan sky on June 15, there was a rush to Royal Air Maroc (RAM). The national airline recorded a record influx for its offers, to the point that it increased its flights. In total, more than one million round-trip tickets have already been sold. More plane tickets available from the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Italy for the month of July. RAM had to rent 4 planes, Airbus A321s, from the SmartLynx Airlines company to meet the strong demand. Seven others have also been chartered for this month of July.

Despite this good recovery, optimism is not the most widely shared thing at RAM. "We shouldn’t have any illusions, we’ll have to wait until 2024 or even 2025 before hoping to see the activity figures for the reference year 2019," said a source from the company to Panora Post. If the current commercial trend is maintained and the Moroccan sky remains open, it could however achieve around 50 to 60% of its regular turnover.
