Royal Air Maroc Struggles to Collect $8 Million Debt from Moroccan Regional Council

The president of the Draa Tafilelt region, El Habib Choubani, refuses to pay the bill of 80 million dirhams, owed since 2018 by the Regional Council to Royal Air Maroc.
According to the newspaper Al Akhbar, a letter was addressed by the management of the airline to the Wali of the region, Yahdih Bouchaab, who forwarded it to the person concerned, without obtaining a response.
The president would thus have brushed aside the recommendations of the Economic Monitoring Committee and the circular of the Minister of Economy and Finance which, according to the newspaper, had insisted on the regularization of the royalties of companies, in order to minimize the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.
Other companies have been waiting for several months for the payment of outstanding invoices, in particular Air Arabia whose arrears amount to 30 million dirhams, adds the daily, which specifies that other companies in charge of framework social projects, are still deprived of royalties amounting to 50 million dirhams.
