Royal Air Maroc to Sell Six Boeing 737-700s Amid Restructuring Plan
Wednesday 9 December 2020, by
Abdelhamid Addou, CEO of RAM, told Le360 that the airline will launch an international call for tenders in the "coming days" to sell 6 Boeing 737-700s. These are the oldest machines it owns.
He specified that this sale was planned for two years but "the crisis has accelerated this sale, just as it has accelerated the shutdown of the Airbus A380 for many airlines".
This sale is part of the airline’s restructuring plan to reduce its costs. This plan provides for a 30% reduction in RAM’s fleet, or about twenty aircraft out of 59.
Mr. Addou also assures that RAM is playing the prudence card when it comes to reducing the fleet. "It is not a question of dumping these assets. On the one hand, we do not know how the global air traffic demand will resume and evolve. On the other hand, the global aircraft market is saturated, as many large companies, like Lufthansa, have sold hundreds of aircraft," he explained.
