Royal Air Maroc Rejects Pilots' Proposal to Save 65 Jobs Amid Layoffs

While the Moroccan Association of Airline Pilots (AMPL) has made proposals to Royal Air Maroc (RAM) to reintegrate 65 of its recently laid-off members, the airline is determined to implement its economic redundancy plan.

In the eyes of RAM management, the AMPL’s proposal to reduce pilots’ salaries by 400 million dirhams over the next three years in exchange for the reinstatement of the 65 laid-off pilots and captains is not reasonable, reports Al Ahdath Al Maghribia. For the airline, this amount of money barely covers the amount of bonuses paid to pilots over that period.

RAM management has not yet made a final decision, but it could literally reject the AMPL’s proposals, which have not yet received its approval. Moreover, the airline would have already handed out checks representing rights to some of the pilots affected by the economic redundancy.

During a consultation organized on August 31 by the AMPL, 308 members out of 469 had voted to file a strike notice in the event of Royal Air Maroc (RAM)’s refusal to immediately reinstate the 65 pilots recently laid off, the association said in a statement.
