Royal Air Maroc Plans Massive Fleet Expansion with 188 New Aircraft

The national airline Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is striving to meet the ever-growing demand. In this sense, it plans to acquire a significant number of aircraft from the European and American aircraft manufacturers Airbus and Boeing, and the Brazilian Embraer.

Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has entered into negotiations with Airbus, Boeing and Embraer for the acquisition of 188 aircraft by September. In an interview with Bloomberg on the sidelines of the IATA AGM in Dubai, Abdelhamid Addou, CEO of RAM, specified that about two-thirds of these aircraft will be narrow-body aircraft, the rest being wide-body aircraft with no more than 350 seats. He said the company would also like to acquire 30 regional transport aircraft. The company is studying the offers received from the aircraft manufacturers last month and will then see "what the delivery schedules will be and what conditions we can obtain," Addou stressed. To meet the growing demand, RAM also plans to lease aircraft.

Last April, RAM had launched a tender for the acquisition of 200 new aircraft. "The tender was launched on April 15," Abdelhamid Addou had told Reuters. The national airline plans to receive these new aircraft in a staggered manner over the next 10 years. This major acquisition will allow it to renew and expand its fleet, going from 52 aircraft currently to 200 by 2037, but also to support the continued growth of the Moroccan tourism industry. A record 14.5 million visitors arrived in Morocco last year. Morocco hopes to receive 17.5 million in 2026 and 26 million by 2030, the year it will co-host the World Cup, alongside Spain and Portugal.
