Royal Air Maroc Plans to Cut 140 Jobs in Historic Layoff Move

Royal Air Maroc is preparing to dismiss 140 employees as indicated by its economic redundancy plan. If this plan received the blessing of the authorities, it would be the first economic redundancy in a public company in Morocco since the promulgation of the new Labor Code in 2004.
This meeting, which was held under the chairmanship of the governor of Hay Hassani, aimed to validate the request for authorization of dismissals, filed by RAM with the prefectural delegation of the Ministry of Labor, reports Le360. It brought together representatives of the government, the CGEM and the main trade unions.
This meeting also allowed the union representatives to point out the irregularities that have tainted the dismissal procedure, from the holding of the RAM works council on July 21 to the filing of the file by the prefectural delegate of the Ministry of Labor with the governor of the Prefecture of Hay Hassani on Tuesday, July 28. The unions believe that the prefectural delegate did not organize the necessary investigations, as required by the regulations in force.
After receiving the file from the prefectural delegate, the governor indicates that she sent a letter to the statutory members of this commission (government, unions, CGEM) immediately after receiving the file at the Prefecture of Hay Hassani. She also invited them to choose their representatives before Wednesday, August 5.
Pending validation of the file by the governor, in view of the provisions of the labor code, the RAM economic redundancy project obtained 9 votes in favor and 5 against. According to the redundancy plan validated by RAM and submitted for the governor’s approval, 65 members of the technical flight crew, 50 members of the commercial flight crew and 16 members of the ground staff should soon leave the company.
