Royal Air Maroc Pilots Threaten Strike Over Mass Layoffs

The dismissal of 140 Royal Air Maroc (RAM) workers continues to cause waves. The Moroccan Association of Airline Pilots (AMPL) is threatening to strike if its demands are not met.

In total, 65 AMPL members are part of this first wave of layoffs. Its president Hicham Falaki denounces a 90% targeting of people. Showing solidarity with the dismissed members, the association is organizing a referendum from August 31 to September 2 after a proposal made during a videoconference, the AMPL said in a statement entitled "Resolution of the referendum".

During these proceedings, the members of the association are invited to consider a few points. These include the demand for a reduction in the salaries of airline pilots to the extent of the savings on the payroll induced by the layoffs, the reinstatement of the 65 concerned, and the wearing of an armband throughout the duration of the health crisis.

If the management of the airline company does not respond favorably to their demands within a time frame that the office will have set, the AMPL plans to file "a strike notice, the date of which will be set later by the office depending on the evolution of events and the health context".
