Royal Air Maroc Pilots Protest Salary Cuts Amid Aviation Crisis

The decision of Royal Air Maroc (RAM) to make deductions from the net monthly salary of its workers is causing waves. The Moroccan Association of Airline Pilots (AMPL) is already expressing its disagreement.
In a letter addressed to its members, the Moroccan Association of Airline Pilots (AMPL) gives its opinion on the announced salary cuts. "With the advent of the current health crisis, the acceleration and gravity of events in recent days mark the entry into a period of uncertainty. While the observation is unanimous, the means and methods used by RAM management are more than debatable," AMPL estimates.
For the association, Abdelhamid Addou’s, CEO of the RAM group, decision is "illegal because it is without the consent of the employees or their representatives and does not refer to a government decision or any regulatory text." AMPL also considers this decision to be "unfair, because the architecture of the PNT payslip mechanically leads to a significant drop in salary." Also, the pilots describe this decision as "short-term, as it only covers this month and does not guarantee that it will be limited to March alone."
According to them, "it would be imperative to go back to the events that the AMPL office has constantly denounced and which have contributed to the critical situation of the company’s finances, even before the advent of the Covid-19 health crisis." The pilots’ association thus condemns the management of staff and fixed-term contracts.
Faced with the seriousness of the situation, "we cannot remain spectators and paralyzed; we must condemn these acts with vehemence, explore possible legal avenues and demand accountability," AMPL asserts.
