Royal Air Maroc launches a new flight
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) is preparing to expand its network to Eastern Europe. The national airline has announced the launch of a new direct air link between Casablanca and the Russian city of St. Petersburg, an initiative aimed at boosting tourism and economic flows between the two countries.
The new route is scheduled to be inaugurated on January 21, 2026 and will operate three flights per week. According to the Russian news agency Rosbalt, this opening is part of the winter expansion of St. Petersburg airport, which plans a total of 107 destinations. The introductory price for a one-way ticket is set at 21,000 rubles, or about 2,500 Moroccan dirhams, a fare considered affordable to attract travelers.
A lever for Russian tourists
Observers cited by the Russian agency believe that this direct flight will strengthen Morocco’s position as a preferred destination for Russian tourists. The Russian market is showing growing demand for cities like Marrakech, Agadir and Essaouira, appreciated for their climate and security stability.
Beyond tourism, this link should also promote trade and investment between the two countries, particularly in the agriculture, energy and seafood sectors, which are of interest to Russian investors in North Africa. This development confirms the resumption of air links between the two countries and the "persistent confidence of Russia in the Moroccan destination".
