Royal Air Maroc to Cut 900 Jobs, Reduce Fleet Amid Pandemic Crisis

To cope with the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has just laid off 140 employees, including 65 pilots. Several hundred others will receive their dismissal letter in the coming days.
Royal Air Maroc will have to part with 900 of its employees, including 150 pilots, or 32% of the workforce, to hope to weather the storm. All sectors of the company are affected by this layoff. People over 57 with at least 15 years of seniority are called upon to opt for voluntary departure. The suspensions will take effect from August 31.
In addition to dismissal for economic reasons, the airline plans to lease or sell about twenty aircraft. Several lines in Africa, Asia, Europe and America will also be discontinued. Like many Moroccan companies, RAM has recorded huge revenue losses. The CEO, Abdelhamid Addou, talks about 50 million dirhams ($ 5.4 million) per day since the suspension of commercial operations. He is convinced that the impact of the crisis will be "long and painful". It will take the company 36 months to hope to return to normal.
