Romania Charters Flight to Evacuate Citizens from Morocco Amid Travel Ban

Romania has decided to repatriate its nationals and other EU citizens stranded in Morocco, following the Moroccan decision to suspend all air links for 15 days.
In a statement, the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it had chartered a plane for the repatriation of about 180 Romanians and other EU citizens. It specified that 127 Romanian citizens had requested to return to Romania. The flight will also allow the return of 53 EU citizens to Europe, following coordination between the Romanian embassy and the diplomatic missions of other EU states in Rabat, the Romanian diplomacy said.
Due to the rapid spread of the new variant of the Covid-19 virus — Omicron (B.1.1.529), particularly in Europe and Africa, and in order to preserve the achievements made by Morocco in the fight against the pandemic and protect the health of citizens, the Moroccan authorities have decided to suspend all direct passenger flights to the Kingdom of Morocco, for a period of 2 weeks, starting from Monday, November 29, 2021 at 11:59 pm. In recent days, many countries have scheduled special flights to repatriate their nationals stranded in the kingdom.
