Roads: Morocco launches a massive plan

The Ministry of Equipment is stepping up its ambition. With an envelope of 21.8 billion dirhams dedicated to roads, the Kingdom is launching in 2026 a vast modernization project to boost its territories and support a rapidly expanding economy.

Morocco is accelerating the pace. For the year 2026, the Ministry of Equipment and Water has unveiled a massive investment program of 73 billion dirhams, up 4%. At the heart of this strategy, the road and highway sector captures 21.8 billion dirhams, confirming its place as a national priority for the country’s development.

The structural projects are set to be spectacular. The plan provides for the creation of more than 400 km of expressways, including the Aïn Aouda-Oued Zem (1.9 MMDH) and Fès-Taounate (1.56 MMDH) corridors. The Guercif-Nador motorway, a true logistical backbone estimated at 7.9 billion dirhams, will see its first partial tenders as early as next year.

The maintenance of the current network is not overlooked. The ministry plans to maintain 1,768 km of roads and modernize several national routes. Particular effort is also being made to rehabilitate infrastructure after the floods, as well as a budget of 610 million dirhams dedicated to studies and control services to secure future construction sites.

This deployment of force constitutes a powerful lever for the labor market. The construction sector, which accounts for 6% of GDP, already employs 1.3 million Moroccans. The 2026 road program alone should generate around 6.7 million working days, consolidating the momentum of a sector that created 64,000 net jobs last year.
