UN Report Warns of Rising Drug Trafficking in Morocco, Seizing Tons of Cocaine and Cannabis

The International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) has published its annual report. The INCB is alerting Moroccan security authorities to the spread of psychotropic substances and international drug trafficking networks.
The report indicates that cocaine trafficking is one of the many activities of organized crime networks in Spain, Colombia, Morocco and the Balkans. Many of these criminal organizations are channeling their illicit goods from major European ports. According to the INCB, Morocco seized 1.7 tons of cocaine, more than 45 million Tramadol (analgesic, morphine class) tablets, nearly 72 tons of cannabis resin and 252 tons of "Maajoune" in 2018.
Adolescents and young people around the world and in the kingdom in particular have developed an addiction to these drugs, particularly cannabis, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). As a result, nearly 13.8 million young people worldwide, aged between 15 and 16, were affected in 2016 by the consumption of hashish and marijuana.
The INCB also commends the efforts of the Moroccan health authorities in implementing a national multisectoral strategy for the protection and surveillance of non-communicable diseases during the 2019/2029 period. Its objective is to detect and treat the consequences of narcotics on health by adopting a health approach to assist users.
