Report: Over One-Third of Moroccans Face Food Insecurity Amid Rising Costs

Before lack of money, 36% of Moroccans suffer from lack of food and 62% fear running out of it, according to a worrying report recently published.
According to this report published by the Arab Barometer (2021-2022), the majority of Moroccans are in a situation of food insecurity. The respondents said they lack food before having the money to buy more. In the majority of the countries studied (Morocco, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Palestine, Sudan and Tunisia), more than half of the citizens fear running out of food before being able to buy more, the document states.
These results confirm the considerable increase in the proportion of people suffering from food insecurity in middle-income countries, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region. According to data from the Global Food Security Index for the year 2021, affiliated with "Economist Impact", Morocco is ranked 57th, falling three places compared to the 2020 ranking where it occupied the 54th place.
