Report: Moroccan Migrants Face Unequal Treatment in Spanish Detention Centers

Moroccans are not treated the same way as other undocumented immigrants in the Detention Centers for Foreigners (CIE) in Spain. This is revealed by the annual report published by the Jesuit Service for Migrants-Spain (Sjme).
Since August 2019, undocumented Maghreb immigrants entering Spain have been taken to the Detention Centers for Foreigners (Cie). Meanwhile, sub-Saharan Africans in the same situation are held in Temporary Accommodation Centers for Foreigners (Cate). This allows them to benefit from better conditions.
This is the injustice characterizing the treatment that the Spanish reserve for Maghreb and sub-Saharan clandestine immigrants. The Jesuit Service for Migrants-Spain (Sjme) has deplored it since it made public its Report on the situation, on Thursday, June 6, 2019.
Still according to the Sjme’s analysis, this reception and management procedure for Maghrebis in Spain constitutes a means to transfer them more easily and quickly to their country of origin.
For a more equitable management of migrants, regardless of their origin, this organization has demanded the closure of the Cie and the implementation of alternative measures. The realization of such a request would guarantee Maghrebis the same reception and assistance conditions as other migrants.
