Renowned Moroccan Melhoun Master Ahmed Souhoum Dies at 84

Haj Ahmed Souhoum, one of the great masters of Melhoun in Morocco, died on Thursday in Salé after a long illness. He was 84 years old.
Born in 1936 in Fez, the late Haj Ahmed Souhoum spent his entire professional career promoting Melhoun. This is an ancestral cultural heritage that has greatly influenced Moroccan song and theater, according to Le Matin.
He was a versatile artist. In the early 1960s, he had joined the National Radio, specifically in the production of a set of radio and television programs such as "With the Heritage" and "Popular Literature".
It is an iconic figure of Moroccan art and culture who has just passed away. The 11th volume of the Melhoun encyclopedia, published by the Academy of the Kingdom of Morocco, is a summary of the poems written by the deceased during more than 60 years of artistic career, specifies the same source.
