Renard’s Secret Saudi Talks Revealed: Morocco Exit Cost 10 Million Dirhams

Hervé Renard had been secretly negotiating his departure from the head of the Atlas Lions’ coaching staff for several months, before the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (CAN). This betrayal cost the former coach a tidy sum of 10 million dirhams to move away from the Moroccan team.
This information, published by Al-Akhbar, is confirmed by Saudi media. According to them, the indicated amount represents the bonus for his contract termination with Morocco.
Added to this is the promotional video of the Saudi Football Federation, which officially announced Hervé Renard’s arrival. A few minutes long, it was posted on the Federation’s Twitter account and widely circulated on the web. This reveals everything. We see the former head of the Moroccan national team’s technical staff, with a small suitcase. The speech of the President of the Saudi Federation marks his satisfaction with the arrival of a coach of Renard’s caliber to lead the Green. In his speech, he mentioned Morocco’s qualification for the World Cup, thanks to the French technician, without any details on his journey with the Atlas Lions during the 2019 CAN.
According to the newspaper, this viral video shows that the French technician concluded an agreement with the Saudis before the adventure in Egypt with Morocco, where he seemed absent.
Hervé Renard has finally joined Saudi Arabia, after long denying it. He thus succeeds the Argentine Juan Antonio Pizzi. The latter had allowed the Saudi national team to qualify for the 2018 World Cup and the 2019 Asian Cup.
