EU Removes Morocco from Safe Travel List Amid Rising COVID-19 Cases

It was predictable. The European Union has just decided to remove Morocco from the list of safe countries in the Schengen area. This decision follows the increase in coronavirus cases in the country.
Placed under surveillance at the last end-of-July council, Morocco has been removed from the list of countries whose nationals are authorized to travel in the Schengen area, according to a statement from the European Union.
According to the same statement, this decision does not concern EU citizens and members of their families coming from Morocco, nor Moroccan citizens residing in the EU and their families. Only international civil servants or medical personnel are exceptionally authorized to travel in the Schengen area.
For now, the updated list of third countries whose nationals are authorized to access the Schengen area is as follows: Australia, Canada, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Rwanda, South Korea, Thailand, Tunisia, Uruguay. As for China, it is maintained subject to confirmation of the principle of reciprocity, very dear to the European Union.
This list, reduced to 11 countries, is reviewed every 15 days based on the epidemiological situation. Moreover, it remains just a recommendation from the Commission. In the name of sovereignty, each country in the area is responsible for the tourists it welcomes on its territory.
