Record Numbers of Moroccan Expatriates Return Home as Travel Restrictions Ease

The 2022 edition of the Marhaba operation is recording a high rate of entry into the national territory of Moroccans residing abroad (MREs), according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita.
According to the figures available to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the ports of Morocco recorded about 28,000 passengers and 7,200 vehicles during the first ten days of the Marhaba 2022 operation launched on June 5. It should also be noted the exit of 19,000 passengers and 4,400 vehicles, in addition to 528,000 passengers who returned to Morocco, during the period from June 5 to 14, 2022.
This strong return of MREs comes after a critical period marked by the coronavirus pandemic. Thus, to allow Moroccans of the world to have a good vacation, the authorities have put in place the necessary measures such as the fluidity of movements, the implementation of service infrastructures, the conditions of security and safety, communication and administrative and consular support.
