Morocco Expects Record Summer Influx as Diaspora Return Operation Begins

The Marhaba operation marking the return of Moroccans residing abroad (MRE) to Morocco, which officially started on June 5 in the various Moroccan ports and airports, is proceeding smoothly and augurs well in terms of the volume of travelers. Traffic is expected to return to or even exceed its pre-Covid-19 level (2 million passengers).
According to industry operators, while air transport is well on its way to maintaining its progress, having gained in recent years especially from 2nd and 3rd generation MREs, maritime transport has no shortage of arguments, reports L’Économiste. By early July, the number of arrivals should see normal growth, accelerating in the first days of this month, in anticipation of Eid Al Adha. Moreover, the advantage of a sea crossing is that the traveler has the possibility of bringing their own vehicle or more luggage. This is not the case for air travel.
The peculiarity of the 2022 Marhaba Operation is the presentation of a ticket giving access to the ports in Morocco and Spain. Access to the port precincts is now subject to the presentation of a ticket that can be modified without any additional fees. This measure aims not only to avoid crowds and long queues, but will also contribute to improving the crossing experience.
