Record Number of Moroccan Expats Return Home as Marhaba Operation Resumes

More than 411,000 Moroccans residing abroad and 102,000 vehicles have already transited through the Andalusian ports as part of the Marhaba Operation 2022, launched on June 15 after two years of cancellation due to the health and diplomatic crisis between Spain and Morocco.
According to the overall data of the Marhaba Operation, the number of Moroccans residing abroad and vehicles has increased by 48% and 62% respectively compared to 2019, the last year the Operation was held. Most of the Moroccans residing abroad have joined Morocco via the port of Algeciras, said the president of the Port Authority, Gerardo Landaluce, specifying that the flow of Moroccans residing abroad will be more important this weekend due to the celebration of Eid Al-Adha scheduled for this Sunday in Morocco.
At the port of Almeria, the flow of Moroccans residing abroad increased by 58% compared to 2019. On Saturday, many were still boarding for Nador. Health checks have been strengthened this year due to the health crisis related to Covid-19. In total, seven shipping companies and 33 ships are ensuring the transport of Moroccans residing abroad and vehicles to Morocco.
