Record 20,000+ Passengers Arrive in Algeciras for Morocco Transit Operation

The port of Algeciras recorded the arrival of 20,785 passengers and 5,121 vehicles on Saturday as part of the Marhaba 2023 Operation. Since June 15, the start date of the Operation, 37,154 vehicles have already transited to Morocco, an increase of 58.5% compared to last year.
In the morning on Saturday, around 10 a.m., about 2,000 vehicles arrived in Almeria, the Port Authority said on its Twitter account. Of this total, 800 did not have pre-purchased tickets, reports Europa Press. FRS is currently operating the Algeciras-Ceuta, Algeciras-Tanger Med and Tarifa-Tanger Ville routes, both for passengers and freight.
According to civil protection data, 31,897 Moroccans residing abroad (MREs) embarked on Saturday (nearly 24,000 via Algeciras and Tarifa), bringing the total number of travelers to 144,911, an increase of 74.9% compared to the same period last year. This large influx is noted on the eve of the Eid al-Adha holiday, celebrated on June 28 and 29.
The shipping company has strengthened its staff in the ports of Algeciras, Ceuta and Tarifa with the recruitment of 156 people in order to provide "quality service and personalized attention" to travelers as part of the Marhaba Operation, which runs from June 15 to September 15.
