US Recognizes Moroccan Sovereignty Over Western Sahara, Hails King’s Leadership

The United States Ambassador to Morocco, David Fischer, welcomed on Thursday, December 10, 2020, his country’s "historic" recognition of Morocco’s Sahara. He also hailed the "far-reaching leadership of King Mohammed VI for his continued and valuable support on issues of common interest".
In a statement, the American diplomat recalled the signing of the decree proclaiming Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara. "Morocco and Israel - two of our country’s closest allies - have also agreed to significant improvements in relations," said David Fischer.
For the US ambassador, these "exhilarating statements truly mark historic milestones in the already very strong relations between Morocco and the United States, built on over two centuries of friendship." "The rich history of the relationship between the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America is unique. They are as old as America itself. As President Trump reminded the world today, Morocco was the first country to recognize the United States of America in 1777," he argued.
"Today’s news is just the beginning of many important developments in the years to come as we strengthen the strategic partnership between our two nations," the American diplomat is convinced.
