Real Madrid's Rising Star Sparks International Tug-of-War: Morocco and Spain Battle for Rachad Fettal

Morocco and Spain are fighting over Rachad Fettal, the new gem of La Castilla, the Real Madrid academy. Born in Spain to Moroccan parents, the 19-year-old striker has the possibility of joining the Atlas Lions or La Roja.

Media sources, including The Athletic, report that the Spanish Federation (RFEF) has registered Rachad Fettal’s name on the extended list of the Hopes team. A way for La Roja to show its interest in the Real Madrid Castilla gem who has already played for the Moroccan U20s. By doing so, Spain hopes to cut the ground from under the Moroccan federation, which has not yet called up the young striker to the senior team.

Born on January 16, 2005 in Torre Pacheco, in the Murcia region, to Moroccan parents, Fettal made his debut at Almeria, in División de Honor, where he made a strong impression by scoring nearly 30 goals in a season. This performance earned him a call-up to the first team and allowed him to discover La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

The 19-year-old talent caught the eye of Real Madrid Castilla, who spent nearly a million euros to recruit him this summer. The Moroccan-born striker is already making a sensation since his arrival at the Madrid training center, delivering remarkable performances and scoring goals.

The Fettal case is reminiscent of those of Lamine Yamal, who ultimately chose to play for La Roja, and Brahim Diaz, who opted for Morocco. Rachad Fettal has already played for the Spanish U17s (3 caps, two goals) and the Moroccan U20s (7 caps, 2 goals). The Madrid gem has not yet played an official match with a national team. For now, he remains silent on his choice. His entourage would like him to play for Spain.
