Real Madrid's Brahim Díaz Sets Sights on African Ballon d'Or with Morocco

In an interview, the Moroccan international Brahim Dìaz looks back on his choice to defend the colors of the Moroccan flag and reveals his ambitions. He especially dreams of the African Ballon d’Or.

"I had to choose between two selections, and I finally opted for Morocco, my heart’s choice," Brahim Diaz confided in an interview with Bein Sports. He preferred Morocco to Spain. A choice he is still delighted with: "It was a remarkable feeling. I am indebted to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people whom I thank very much".

During this interview, the Spanish-Moroccan striker revealed the dream he intends to accomplish with the Atlas Lions for Morocco. "I grew up with values and principles, and I know how to be a team member. We are a family, we want to win trophies. I will help the young people (El Khannouss, Ben Seghir...). I too am young but a little experienced."

The star striker of Real Madrid added: "My ultimate goal is to win a trophy with my country to offer it to the Moroccan people, then to win the African Ballon d’Or. We have a very strong generation. It is now normal for the national team to reach the semi-finals of the World Cup, and we must work and continue to win. We must first win trophies as a group. We are a very good team, both at Real Madrid and in the national team."

Brahim Diaz made his long-awaited debut with the Moroccan team against Angola (1-0) on March 22 and Mauritania, on March 26 (0-0) at the large stadium in Agadir. He provided his first assist during the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, against Zambia and four days later against Congo.
