Real Madrid’s Brahim Diaz Opts to Represent Morocco in International Soccer

The Brahim Diaz saga is coming to an end. The Real Madrid star has chosen to play for Morocco, to the detriment of Spain, which has not shown a firm interest in the player.
Brahim Diaz has given his in-principle agreement to the president of the Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa, and the national coach, Walid Regragui, to participate in the upcoming friendly matches of the Atlas Lions against Angola and Mauritania, scheduled for March 22 and 26 in the Grand Stadium of Agadir. Barring last-minute changes, the player’s name should appear on the list of players called up by the Moroccan coach for these two preparation matches for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
According to Marca, Spain has already lost Brahim Diaz. The Spanish media believes it is too late for the Spanish national team to change the Real Madrid midfielder’s mind, who has long awaited a call-up from La Roja. Born in Malaga to a Moroccan father and a Spanish mother, Diaz has the possibility of playing for the national team of either of the two countries. But faced with the indifference and passivity of Spain, he has finally accepted the call of the Moroccan Federation, which has been trying for years to convince him to join the Atlas Lions.
The coach of La Roja, Luis de la Fuente, has repeatedly reassured that he has not forgotten Diaz, but so far has not deigned to call up the player. Meanwhile, Morocco offers him an opportunity to start a beautiful international career. In the Moroccan colors, the Real Madrid star will be able to participate in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be held in Morocco, as well as the 2030 World Cup, which the kingdom is co-organizing with Spain and Portugal. He is expected to wear the number 10 jersey.
