Real Madrid Alters Logo, Removes Cross for UAE Sponsorship Deal

After signing a three-year partnership agreement with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi, the Spanish football club, Real Madrid, has removed a Christian symbol from its logo in order to satisfy this new sponsor.

At the unveiling ceremony, the new sponsor announced a brand new National Bank of Abu Dhabi credit card that also serves as a Real Madrid membership card, reports Marca. On this new card, we see a modified version of the regular "Los Blancos" crest. Similarly, the cross - a Christian symbol - usually located above the crown, has been removed.

"I know that the local population lives each game in a special way, and that our ties with the United Arab Emirates are constantly strengthening. This agreement will help the club continue to conquer the hearts of UAE supporters," said Florentino Perez, president of the club. He had announced on September 12, 2019 that the Spanish football club would sign a three-year partnership agreement with the National Bank of Abu Dhabi. In Perez’s eyes, it is a "strategic alliance with one of the most prestigious institutions in the world".
