Real Estate Scam in Morocco: Developer Arrested After $3 Million Fraud in Berrechid

A fake real estate developer has managed to embezzle nearly 30 million dirhams. She offered her victims lots of land in a cooperative, right in the center of Berrechid.
More than 160 people fell into the trap of the fake developer who promised them lots in a strategic location, in exchange for cash. Some had even made advances of 200,000 dirhams.
Wanted on several arrest warrants, following complaints filed by her victims, the scammer was finally arrested by the security services in Casablanca, before being handed over to the Judicial Police in Berrechid.
She is being prosecuted for aggravated fraud against 164 people, issuing checks without funds for a total value of 1.4 million dirhams and identity theft.
According to the Hibapress website, the victims were intrigued by the large number of members in the cooperative, while the cadastral plan from the Berrechid Urban Agency does not exceed 72 lots of land.
