Real Estate Scam in Marrakech: Buyers Left Without Homes After Paying Thousands

Following a complaint filed by the president of the Association for the Defense of Human Rights, Abdellah Tatouche, against the promoter of an economic and social housing project for fraud and breach of trust, the judicial police of Marrakech is conducting an investigation.
According to the complaint, potential buyers have purchased apartments from the promoter whose prices vary between 140,000 and 250,000 DH, reports Al Massae. The only problem: the apartments were not delivered to them. They put pressure on the promoter who finally asked them to make an appointment with a notary in Casablanca for the signing of the sales contracts.
The latter claimed fees and registration fees exceeding 24,000 dirhams per apartment. Excessive. The promoter then directed them to another notary in Marrakech. He then turns off his phone and disappears into thin air.
Another strange fact: the tax authorities have claimed from the potential buyers an amount of VAT amounting to 45,000 DH for economic apartments. According to the departments concerned, this amount is explained by the fact that the apartment areas were larger than those agreed with the clients. A fault committed by the promoter.
In addition, the promoter is also accused of not having paid his suppliers and subcontractors. Some are on the verge of bankruptcy. Since its implementation, this real estate project would moreover be steeped in an indescribable fog, adds the same source.
