Raja Casablanca Aims for First Arab Champions Cup Title Against Saudi's Ittihad

This Saturday, August 21, Raja of Casablanca will face the Saudi club Ittihad of Jeddah in Rabat in the final of the Arab Champions Cup of football clubs. The Greens are betting heavily on this trophy to confirm their image as a great African and Arab club.

Winner last July of the African Confederation Cup at the expense of JS Kabylie, Raja of Casablanca aims to sign its first success at the Arab level, reports the MAP.

For this final, the club will be deprived of its Congolese striker Ben Malango, who recently joined the Emirati championship, as well as its Libyan defender Sanad Al-Werfalli, who did not renew his contract.

The friendly match against AS Roma, last Saturday, which resulted in a heavy 5-0 defeat, was a real preparation test, said Tunisian coach Lassaad Chebbi.

To recall, Raja of Casablanca had secured their ticket for the final at the expense of the Egyptians of Al Ismaïli (3-0 in the first leg and 1-0 in the second leg), while Al-Ittihad eliminated their compatriot of Al-Shabab (2-2 in the first leg and 2-1 in the second leg).

The financially troubled Greens will try to pocket the tidy sum of 60 million dirhams provided for the winner, against 25 million dirhams for the unfortunate finalist.

The teams qualified for the semi-finals will receive 5 million dirhams, against 2 million for those who reached the quarter-finals and 500,000 dirhams for those who qualified for the round of 16.

A special bonus is reserved for the best players and top scorer who will each receive a reward of 1 million dirhams.

Tonight’s final will be directed by an Egyptian refereeing trio led by Mahmoud El Banna, who will be assisted by Mahmoud Abou Rijal and Ahmed Houssam Taha.
