Racist Attack Rocks Dutch Soccer: Player and Family Targeted After Match-Winning Goal

Supporters of the Brabant club attacked Ahmed El Azzouti and his family during the match between Kozakken Boys of Werkendam and SV Spakenburg. They expressed their anger after the Dutch-Moroccan player scored the second goal, giving his team the victory (2-1). During the match, they hurled racist insults at him: "Azc weg ermee" (asylum center, get out), "kankermoslim" (cancer Muslim) and "kanker-Marokkaan" (cancer Moroccan).

At the end of the match, the situation escalated. Dozens of Kozakken Boys supporters rushed towards the Spakenburg players’ bus. El Azzouti, who had played for Kozakken Boys a few seasons ago, was led to the parking lot by a detour. Shortly afterwards, an individual threw a smoke bomb in his direction. After the explosion of the bomb, El Azzouti fled the stadium.

"And now, get out of here," he heard a steward shout. He was jostled. The troublemakers took advantage of the fact that the gates of the sports complex were left open, and pursued El Azzouti. A fight broke out. "I saw my brother and my little brother being beaten. We ran towards the bus. But my mother was still in the sports complex," the player recounts. Thanks to some Kozakken Boys players, his mother emerged unharmed.

The facts were confirmed by the police of West Brabant. They intervened to escort the players’ bus to the highway. No complaint was filed with the police.
