Racist Attack Near Barcelona Leaves Moroccan Man Permanently Disabled, Suspect Faces Prison
A man faces a sentence of seven years and four months in prison for tearing off a piece of finger from a man of Moroccan origin while hurling racist insults at him and his son.
The suspect is accused of causing permanent disability to the victim’s hand by tearing off his phalanx, which could never be reconstructed. The public prosecutor is also demanding nearly 14,000 euros in compensation for the physical and moral damage caused to the victims.
The attack took place as the Moroccans were leaving a hair salon in Badalona, near Barcelona. According to the public prosecutor, the aggressor hurled racist insults at them, provoking a reaction from the father. The aggressor then approached them, hitting the father and violently biting one of his fingers until it was severed, in addition to giving several blows to the son’s head.
The defendant fled, but the victims chased him and managed to hold him until the police arrived. The attacked minor confirmed the accusations in court, testifying behind a partition to avoid any visual confrontation with the accused.
The verdict will be announced in the coming weeks. The public prosecutor is demanding a sentence of seven years and four months in prison for the suspect and compensation for the victims.
