Barcelona Man Sentenced to 7 Years for Racist Attack That Severed Victim’s Finger

The Barcelona court has sentenced a man to seven years in prison for a violent altercation that occurred on February 13, 2021. The defendant had torn off the finger of another man after calling him a "dirty Moor" in the street.
According to the judgment, the aggressor insulted the victim because of his Moroccan origins and also told him to "go back to his country". Faced with these provocations, the victim approached to ask for explanations. The altercation then degenerated into a fight, during which the accused delivered several punches to the victim before severing one of his fingers on his left hand by biting it.
After this assault, the man also struck the victim’s son and tried to flee. Fortunately, a Guardia Urbana de Barcelona agent intervened to arrest him.
In addition to the prison sentence, the Court imposed restraining orders of five and seven years against the victims. The aggressor will also have to pay 12,499 euros and 3,600 euros to the Moroccan and his son as compensation for the injuries, sequelae and moral damages caused by his act.
