The National Railway Office (ONCF) has launched a call for tenders for the execution of a project for a double-track railway tunnel, for an overall envelope estimated at 1.92 billion dirhams. This project also includes studies and the realization of construction work on the engineering structures and earthworks on the associated platforms, in the urban area of the capital. The realization of this tunnel, which is in line with the Kenitra-Marrakech high-speed line project, aims to increase the rail capacity between the two cities and at the Casablanca hub. The opening of the bids is scheduled for April 9.
This tunnel will be 3300 meters long. It will connect the Bouregreg wadi to the Rabat Agdal station through a 2750-meter-long single-tube double-track tunnel, a 50-meter uncovered open-air area, and a 500-meter covered 4-track trench. The execution time has been set at 42 months.
