Rabat-Salé-Témara Tramway Project Advances with $2.7 Million Preliminary Study

The preliminary studies for the Rabat-Salé-Témara tramway will cost around 27 million dirhams.
The project to develop the Rabat-Salé-Témara agglomeration’s tramway network is starting to take shape with the awarding of the preliminary study contract to the CID/Egis Rail consortium, based in Morocco. According to the documents consulted, these preliminary studies will cost more than 27.5 million dirhams (more than 1.2 million euros).
Le360 also reports that the Rabat-Salé Tramway Company (STRS) had carried out a major recapitalization, in the order of 529 million dirhams in November 2019, in order to increase its share capital to 1.37 billion dirhams in November 2019. This recapitalization will be used to launch the first phase of the extension works of the two lines in service this year 2020, in order to serve Témara and Sala Jadida, it is specified.
The same source indicates that this operation was carried out thanks to the contributions of the Agency for the Development of the Bouregreg Valley (349 million dirhams) and the "Al Assima" Inter-Municipal Cooperation Establishment (180 million dirhams).
It should be noted that the Rabat-Salé-Témara tramway will cover a distance of 50 kilometers, instead of the current 25, once the work is completed at a total cost of 4.5 billion dirhams.
