Rabat’s Mohammed VI Museum to Achieve Energy Independence with Solar Power

Two agreements have recently been signed between the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern Art, the National Museums Foundation (FNM) as well as the Institute for Solar Energy Research, New Energies (IRESEN) and the Green Energy Park (GEP). They will allow the museum to be autonomous and to produce its own electricity through a photovoltaic installation.
While the first agreement provides for the development of innovative solutions for the benefit of all the museums in the Kingdom, the second will exclusively deal with the 100 kilowatt (kW) photovoltaic installation. It will produce energy during the day in order to supply the museum with clean energy, reports Afrik 21.
According to Badr Ikken, CEO of IRESEN, project owner of the work, the same agreement provides for the storage of 50 kWh of electricity that will be supplied by second-life batteries from the automotive industry, for self-consumption and optimization of the museum’s energy management. He also announced the development of a solution to be tested with other museums.
Since its creation in 2011, the Institute for Solar Energy Research and New Energies has been supporting the national energy strategy aimed at producing 52% of electricity from renewable sources by 2030.
