Quebec Comic Rachid Badouri to Star in Autobiographical Film 'Miskine'

Quebec comedian of Moroccan origin Rachid Badouri is working on a feature film inspired by his life, in which he will play the lead role.

Titled Miskine, this film, whose screenplay will be written in part by Nicolas Krief (Jusqu’au déclin, Très belle journée), will be a "dramedy", a mix of drama and humor, announces Rachid Badouri. "Of course there will be funny moments in the film. But I really want something touching to come out of it," he confides to the media Le Journal.

The feature film tells the story of a comedian (played by Badouri) who is going through a bad patch in his career. While he was helping a young social worker make her debut in the world of comedy and progress, his career is going to plummet overnight. "He’s a guy who sat on the success of the beginning of his career and didn’t continue to work to renew himself," explains the 46-year-old comedian.

"The screenwriter Nicolas Krief and the producer Nicolas Comeau had the idea of this narrative after seeing my show Les fleurs du tapis, where I talk about my downfall when success came knocking at my door. I tell how I almost lost everything after the quick success I had at the beginning of my career. We put a bit of that into the story of the film," he adds.

Badouri has always dreamed of making movies. "It’s something that attracted me long before the idea of wanting to do comedy..." he details. Through this film, Rachid Badouri wants to show the public another facet of himself, "a kind of interiority that is less present in his shows," says screenwriter Nicolas Krief. The director of the film is not yet known. Its release in theaters is scheduled for 2025.
