Qatar Airways in Talks to Acquire Stake in Royal Air Maroc

The airline, Qatar Airways, is reportedly in full negotiations to acquire a stake in Royal Air Maroc (RAM).
After the strategic commercial partnership agreement signed in May 2015 between the two companies, which allows an extension of the networks of the two operators to Africa and Asia, Qatar Airways is currently in talks to take a more or less significant stake in the capital of the Moroccan airline.
According to internal sources of the group, the negotiations are continuing so that the acquisition of Qatar Airways in RAM becomes effective. The same source specifies that the objective of the company is to improve the fleet of Royal Air Maroc and to densify its network. For now, no details have been given on the share the Qatari group intends to take in the Moroccan company.
In a recent interview granted last June to the newspaper "National", the CEO, Akbar Al Baker, had announced a target between 25 to 49% of the capital of RAM. At the time, he indicated that this acquisition would require major restructuring at their base in Casablanca. Africa currently needs a major airport hub, he added.
However, the negotiations are very advanced on the side of RwandAir, where the group has clearly displayed its intentions to take a 49% stake in the capital of this African company. The news of its entry into the Rwandan company has been confirmed by the CEO of Qatar Airways, Akbar Al Baker, this Wednesday, February 5 in Doha.
