PSG Star Marquinhos Embraces Moroccan Comparisons, Praises Country’s Hospitality

Brazilian international Marquinhos looks back on a joke whose echoes are still resounding. Does the PSG defender really have Moroccan origins?
"There’s the joke about my Moroccan-looking head. Let’s not lie, it’s true that I can pass for a Moroccan," Marquinhos jokes in an interview with Le Parisien. The Brazilian international is among the lovers of the Moroccan destination and never fails to praise Moroccan hospitality. "Every time I go to Morocco, I’m actually very well received, everyone tells me: welcome home. I feel at ease there," he added.
"Salam Alaykoum (...) Are you going to play the CAN with Morocco this year?" Julien Cazarre, a columnist for the Canal+ J+1 show, had launched in 2016 to Marquinhos, during an interview for the PSG magazine. "You know I’ve received messages from people telling me: ’But Marqui, come play the CAN!’ Sometimes I even run into people on the street who are convinced that I’m Moroccan. They say to me: ’Do you really have Moroccan origins?’ This joke has taken on an incredible dimension," the Brazilian central defender had declared.
